Commission a Portrait
The process of commissioning a portrait is fun and exciting. I work from photos you already have, or you might consider taking some new digital pictures just for the portrait. I will email you updates as I work, so you can follow the progress of your portrait.

I use professional quality pastel paper and soft pastels. Each portrait is approximately 9” x 12”. The portrait will have an acid free mat and a protective acetate cover.

This is a portrait, so it’s not necessary to photograph the entire dog. The focus should be on the head and neck and shoulders. I will be happy to work with you to get the best picture for your portrait.
1. Use natural, late afternoon lighting when possible. Avoid shooting in the middle of the day. If you need to take pictures inside, try to allow for some natural light.
2. Do not use flash and shoot the largest size possible.
3. Shoot close-up head shots from lots of angles at the dog’s eye level. Encourage him to look at the camera as the eyes are the most important part of the portrait.
4. Try a variety of poses and take your time to ensure sharpness. (I usually shoot many photos to hope for 2-3 good ones!)

You will receive your portrait carefully wrapped and packaged. If shipping is needed, I use UPS shipping, unless you prefer the picture sent via another carrier.

The cost for a portrait with one dog is $500 plus shipping. I accept personal checks, money orders or Venmo. Half the payment is due at the beginning of the project and the balance due upon completion.
